10 Years of SALT [2016 - 2025]
Ten moments that made us.
Ten years. We honestly cannot believe it. What started as a solo leap of faith has grown into a brand, a community, and a collection of moments we will never forget. Here are the ten that shaped us most.

01 The logo. Thirty minutes. All heart.
I sat down, I designed it, and I loved it. Thirty minutes, and it just felt right. What I did not know then was that people would never stop asking who did our branding. The answer has always been: me, alone, right at the very beginning, betting on something I could not yet fully see. That logo was the first act of faith, and honestly, it still makes me proud every single time I see it.

02 Signing the Lease on Fort Street
Our second store! A second big swing, backed by the belief that I could do this and the love of friends and family cheering me on. I moved off Salt Spring, something I genuinely never thought I would do, and that one signature on one lease changed the entire shape of my life. Growth is terrifying. It is also the biggest thrill. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

03 Every Single Person Who Has Worked Here
I adore them all, genuinely. Every person who has walked through the SALT door as part of this team has arrived with their own personality, perspective, and way of seeing the world. They have each made me better. They have shaped the brand, challenged my thinking, and shown me what it really means to lead with care. The Salty Babes are a community all their own, and I am so lucky to be part of it. One of them has become my ride-or-die here on Vancouver Island. That is the kind of gift that goes way beyond work.

04 Designing the Current Tee
My favourite thing we make and honestly my most worn item, ever. The Current Tee hits that perfect sweet spot between loose and fitted, so hard to find. It is not oversized, but you never once have to pull at it or think about it. You just exist, comfortably, freely, in this tee. Designing something that makes people feel that way is such a win. If you do not have one yet, please treat yourself. Ten-year anniversary feels like the right moment!
05 Connecting Our Community through Local Initiatives
We are founding partners of the Late Night Holiday Sip and Shop on Salt Spring, and watching that spirit travel with us to the Fort Street Late Night Shop has been so exciting. There is something really special about bringing local business communities together for a night of joy and festivity. We always do more when we show up for each other, and we will keep finding ways to make that happen.
06 For the Ocean: The Fashion Show We're Still Talking About
This one still gives us chills. We brought local brands together for a fashion show that put ocean health front and centre, at a time when most people had no idea how deeply the fashion industry was impacting our waters. MERS Society was there speaking on the importance of whales. Ecologyst and Anian came down from Victoria. It was community over competition, it was education wrapped in celebration, and it was one of those nights where you just know something special is happening. We have been thinking lately... maybe it is time to bring it back?

07 Closing the Victoria Retail Store
Yes, you read that right. After seven years of growth, hustle, and the deeply human need to prove myself, I finally listened to something quieter. Early 2024 was the hardest season of this whole journey, and also one of the most powerful. I chose joy over burnout. I trusted my gut and made a shift. This business is supposed to make me feel grateful to lead it, and stepping back from Victoria was the moment I remembered that. It was the right call and I have never been more sure of anything.

08 Moving Into Our Current Office, All Together
One of my all-time favourite days. My team showed up not because they had to, but because they genuinely cared. We set up our new space side by side, laughing, carrying things, and figuring it out together, and it felt like the start of something new and really good. More freedom for everyone. That was always the dream, and we finally found our way there.

09 The Dorothy Sweater and the Sailing Boat She Was Named After
I have wanted to make a wool sweater since the very beginning. Finding a mill in Canada willing to work in small quantities felt impossible for years, so we found another way: we partnered with a local knitter, and Dorothy came to life. Naming her was easy. There is a beautiful old wooden sailing vessel called Dorothy, and she captures everything I love: heritage, craftsmanship, community, and the kind of timeless quality that never goes out of style. We photographed the sweater on board that very boat, with a childhood friend behind the camera, on one of those golden days that just feel like they were meant to happen. Old wooden boats, sailing, cozy wool, and the people you grew up with. The Dorothy is all of that and more.
10 Bringing Our SALT Community Into Decisions
This one is brand new, and it might be our favourite yet. The SALT community survey opened something up for us. Hearing directly from you, what you love, what you want back, where you want us to go next, has given us clarity and excitement that feels like a whole new beginning. Year ten is not just a celebration. It is a conversation. And we are so ready to build the next chapter together with you.
Thank you for ten years. For buying the tee, for walking through the door, for cheering us on through the pivots and the parties and everything in between. SALT exists because of you, and the best is absolutely still to come. With so much gratitude ✦
